The Way of the Cross

To help pupils think about the true meaning of Easter, Third & Fourth Classes re- enacted two plays this term.

The first play was the story of The Last Supper which outlined how Jesus was betrayed by one of his deciples, Judas, on the night before He died.

The second drama told the story of the crucfixion of Our Lord on the cross.

It was called The Way of the Cross.

All pupils in the school came to watch these dramas, along with parents of the children involved.

Here are some photos of the plays:

National Tree Week 2014

National Tree Week took place from March 2nd – 8th 2014.

We celebrated this event by planting saplings around the school grounds.

Each girl from Third Class was lucky enough to plant their own sapling.

Sonny helped us with this activity, by digging the holes and carefully guiding us, as we placed our sapling into the ground.

We used fresh compost from the school garden to top up the hole, and watered them with recycled water from the rainwater harvester.

We look forward to watching our saplings grow over the coming months.

Here are some more pictures for you to enjoy......

Nov 2013: Class Outing to Taylormade Glass Factory, Templemore

On Thursday Nov 28th, the girls from Third Class visited our local Glass Factory, Taylormade.

Upon our arrival, we were greeted by our guide ,who gave us a power point presentation to explain how glass is manufactured.

A little while later the girls were given special glasses to protect their eyes and ear plugs to drown out the loud noises from the factory floor.

Then the guided tour began!!

We learned that glass is made from sand, and this process takes place in Finland, France and the UK.

The glass is then delivered to Taylormade where, after a lengthy process, it is used to create wind-shields and doors for speed boats, tractor doors and glass shields for showers and baths.

It was a most enjoyable and informative trip and the girls didn`t go home empty handed! They were each presented with a selection box for behaving so well throughout the tour. Yum yum....

Please scroll down to enjoy some pictures of the tour...

Some snapshots of our tour

Look at how the glass is first cleaned in a giant machine!

Next, we saw how the Taylormade logo is pressed onto the glass...

One pupil even manges to say Hi to her Uncle!! Good Job Uncle John...

The glass is now cooled and we can touch it...

The Furnace heats the glass to a very high temperature so it can be moulded into shape.

(We had to keep well back as it was very hot!)

Look how the carpenter uses the glass to make a door for a speed-boat.

The glass is also used to create a new curved shower door.

We had some fun trying out the new shower unit !!

Finally, back at the office, we completed a questionnaire ...

We had a really lovely trip.

Thanks Taylormade!! smiley
